I am pretty sure Viren does survive.
First explanation on a story perspective:
Viren just survived and spent one season bonding with Claudia and the next making the choice against dark magic. Now would come the time to prove his choice and make amends with Soren. To just die on the side line would be anti climatic, especially for someone who came back from the dead. If you die twice your second dead should be more impactful than the first and you should give your character a reason for coming back from the first time. Viren didn’t change any of the story for the other characters. Claudia would still have gone to free Aaravos without Viren and would still be sad if he died earlier. So you could have had him be dead the whole time and nothing would have changed. There has to be a different reason for Viren to still be in the story this far and since he didn’t impact anything yet, I presume he will have to do it in the future.
Now from a character perspective:
What does Aaravos want = Aaravos said to Viren he must kill the creature. Clearly stating what he wants to happen. He even made sure that it was something Viren would technically be willing to do ( he know Soren or Claudia where no options if he wanted this to happen ). Than he gave him the weapon and a push to finish it. Also he transported Viren to him to explain how he could survive stating first, that he expected him sooner and that he is willing to do it. Viren didn’t have to beg to survive, the opposite actually, Aaravos planed virens survival and was eager to do it. So there is no question in the fact that Aaravos really wants Viren alive.
Does aaravos respect virens choice to die and can he stop it = he doesnt seem like a respectful kind of guy and he has the ability to move both Viren and the creature at his will / possession. His usually style is to push people into making a choice for them self. But if he really wants something the other person is not willing to do, he will make them do it by force. ( see callum )
Does Aaravos want Claudia instead = no. He made no move towards her in all seasons. She is a powerful pawn but one he always ignores for Viren. Viren dies, let’s wait two years to wake him up. He could communicate through the creature the whole time ( taking its place ), never do this except for Viren. They are at his prison and Claudia could use his guidance, let’s talk to Viren how he could survive. The prison got stolen by callum und co and Claudia is injured, let’s stay next to a dying man. He wants Viren nobody else no matter how powerful.
( on that note I think Viren is more powerful than Claudia. Not only has he more corruption, more experience and bigger showings in general. But the scene with kid Soren seemed like an indication that Viren has far more power than realized. It wouldn’t surprise me if we learn Viren sold his soul at this point and didn’t kill someone else to get Soren back. That would make the act that much darker, would explain his looks and what his teacher said to him ˋI know you would go far but this far´. )
Foreshadowing = the dream scene foreshadowed the creature fact. It is a hallucination based on Viren experience and fears and what the dark power wants. After all Viren didn’t know about the child and it wasn’t a nightmare he thought could happen. ( unlike the Claudia part ) so I presume it is dark magic and aaravos styled and not only user coded. I also had the feeling that both harrow and virens teacher ( I forgot the name ) where acting strange and that I heard aaravos own voice mixed in their voices at some points.
Teacher dream = Is he the real one here through a spell, a memory of him by Viren or more likely is this a manifestation of dark magic. he seemed quit proud of Viren which doesn’t make sense if this was the real one or a memory of his character. After all the real one was trapped by him so I don’t expect this reaction to Viren. He also stood next to Viren when he was at the throne ( like aaravos did in the end credits pictures ) and said all hail king Viren in dark magic tone. Teacher was trapped during the takeover so he couldnt know about that nor do i think this is based on a memory of what Viren thinks could his teachers reaction to that event be. So is this one of Viren own desires. No, he didn’t like the throne. If the real teacher didn’t like Viren on the throne and Viren himself doesn’t eather. Who or what does want him there this much that he has problems getting the crown of his head.
harrows dream = we see harrow having an arrow through his chest and Viren beeing surprised he is alive. Since the creators sayed harrow is not the bird I think Viren thought of switching the souls but couldn’t because harrow was already shot at that point. The sequence is a mix of memory’s and what Viren wanted to hear from harrow ( the finding him dead and the brother part ) and than it changed into dark magic manifestation. Harrow used the coin spell ( Viren didnt do this on harrow because than there would be no body to kill for the moon shadow elves ). He would also not have this nightmare towards harrow ( if he would have a nightmare based on his own emotions like with Claudia, harrow would reject Viren not embrace him ). The coin spell is interesting because the words are „your soul is my treasure“ the only question is whose treasure is Viren.
I think in those scenes it is the darkness / aaravos talking. Not Viren or his memory’s or fears / desirers. So he still has a part to play following this dream.
Last what does aaravos say = the sun will go up but you won’t. He said this two times and the first he mentioned something about the end of virens mortal life. I find the wording strange, he could just have said live but he had to mention mortality. So what if he ment the end of virens mortal life and beginning of Viren immortal live. It would explain why he created sir sparklepuff from the very beginning. I don’t think he was just a fail safe to bring viren back to live if he died. More likely he always wanted Viren to absorb zym, get the power and than kill sparky and get the immortal live. Sir sparklepuff is a child from Viren so the ritual will work but he is aaravos child as well so the live Viren could get is stronger than the one he would get from Claudia and Soren. Aaravos wasnt really looking out for virens children, he just planned ahead what kind of live quantity Viren would get.
= next season Viren will wake up having killed sir sparklepuff against his will. Becoming immortal and more powerful and will go hunt down callum and co to free aaravos even though he doesn’t want to. ( Claudia is not able to defeat the group on her own and I don’t think the dark sun elves will help her so getting Viren back into the game but different than before is the perfect solution to finally free aaravos / ending in aaravos free, Viren controlled and powerful, Claudia angry because of her leg ( viren could be forced to use dark magic to heal it ) the sun elves in civil war and the sun dragon healed )
First: I NEED MORE!! (Pretty please) I really liked this season. Much better than the last one.
Second: Yay, more Aaravos! Still not enough, but I'll take what I can get. Also: Aaravos and Viren's "child" - ha! "He must get the voice from your side of the family." Cracked me up. 😂 And the end credit drawing with Aaravos doing a sort of Venus - epic. I need to color it now, thanks.
Third: Viren Redemption, Viren Redemption! Claudia and Callum getting darker, but Viren Redemption!
Fourth: Dang this season was dark. (Not disapproving at all - I just didn't expect it, but I liked where it went.)

second of all, your baby was a caterpillar that grew into a homunculus-
TFW you realize that Callum is going to be the one who ends up freeing Aaravos because Aaravos has been manipulating him from the start.
You know. Callum just did more dark magic… and Aaravos’ prison is now IN CALLUM’S VICINITY.
Aaravos just has to peek into Callum’s mind ONE more time to realise this.
What if in an AWFUL turn of events it’s possessed!Callum who lets Aaravos out??
This is my S6 wish list. I want Callum to make this mistake. Feel like dirt. And Rayla stand by his side the way he stands by hers. I want it SO bad it hurts.
